Understanding who has shared your Instagram post involves checking a few areas, primarily focusing on shares to Instagram Stories and using account insights.
Checking Story Reshares
This is the most direct method to see who shared your feed post to their Instagram Story:
- Navigate to your post: Open the specific feed post you are interested in.
- Tap the three dots: These are located in the top-right corner of your post.
- Select "View Story Reshares": If this option appears, it means your post has been shared to one or more currently active public Stories. Tapping this will show you a list of public accounts that have shared your post to their Story.
Important: This feature only shows shares to public Stories that are currently live (within the 24-hour Story lifespan). If a Story has expired, or if the user who shared it has a private account and you don't follow them, you won't see their reshare here.

Using Post Insights (Business or Creator Accounts)
If you have an Instagram Business or Creator account, you can access analytics that include share counts:
- Go to your post: Locate the post on your profile.
- Tap "View Insights": This option is usually found directly beneath your post, above the caption.
- Look for the "Shares" metric: This is often represented by a paper airplane icon. The number displayed indicates how many times your post has been shared. This count typically includes shares to Stories and shares via Direct Message (DM).
Note: While Post Insights show the quantity of shares, they do not typically reveal the specific individuals who shared your post, especially for shares made via Direct Message. The "View Story Reshares" option is the primary way to identify specific users who shared to their Story.
Key Limitations
- Private Accounts: You cannot directly see if a private account shares your post to their Story (unless you follow them and they allow you to view their Stories) or via DM.
- Direct Message (DM) Shares: Instagram does not provide a list of users who have shared your post via DM. The insights for professional accounts will include these in the total share count, but not the identities of the sharers.
- External Shares: Instagram does not track or show you when your post is shared to other platforms or apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Twitter, Messenger, text message).
Currently, there is no feature on Instagram that provides a comprehensive list of every single user who has shared your post across all methods, especially private shares or shares via DM.
