Understanding Post Shares on Instagram
Currently, Instagram does not offer a direct feature that allows you to see a comprehensive list of every individual user who has shared your feed posts. However, you can get some information depending on how your post is shared:
Shares to Instagram Stories:
- If someone shares your feed post to their Story and tags your account, you will receive a notification. You can then view their Story (if their account is public or you follow them) to see the share and who posted it.
- If someone shares your post to their Story without tagging you, Instagram does not notify you, and there's no built-in way to see who shared it unless you happen to view their Story and recognize your post.
Shares via Direct Message (DM):

When users share your post with others via Direct Message, these actions are private. Instagram does not provide you with a list of who shared your post this way or to whom it was sent.
Professional Account Insights (Business or Creator Accounts):
If you have a Professional account, you can access Post Insights for your content:
- Under Post Insights, you will find a metric for "Shares." This number indicates how many times your post has been shared (this typically includes shares via DM and shares to Stories).
- However, these insights provide an aggregate count and do not reveal the specific identities of the individual users who shared the post.
General Limitations:
Instagram prioritizes user privacy for many sharing actions. Therefore, a complete, identifiable list of every user who has shared your content through all possible methods (especially private DMs or untagged Story shares) is not made available to the original poster.
